Hedgeschool (2006) was a temporary public art curatorial commission funded under County Carlow’s Percent-for-Art scheme (Ireland). As curator, I invited Dublin-based artist and educator ︎︎︎Glenn Loughran to concieve of a temporary arts project with local rural youth. Informed by the ideas of Paulo Freire, Loughran built a temporary schoolhouse with the local community of Leighlinsbridge using primarily farm material (straw bale), and oversaw a youth summer school of film and theatre workshops on socio-political themes. According to the plan, the building was demolished at the end of the summer school. Hedgeschool became known in Ireland as a benchmark temporary public arts commission. This was concieved curatorially as a partner project to ︎︎︎Sweet Futures.
